According to this Bloomberg news video report http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLv1wsQyJJM , google is facing regulatory barriers in Europe due to its sheer "size." Although the firm does not sell any product, its popularity makes the authorities unsettled and we witness waves of censorship all across the continent.
In China, the company faced the same issue, and now "offers a software twist to its search page that warns users when they type a search term whose results are likely to be blocked in China" (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/02/world/asia/google-to-alert-users-to-chinese-censorship.html )
The goal of any Start-up is to grow and be as successful as Google, but it seems that there is only a "critical size" and level of influence which is allowed before your product faces censorship. Should companies try to fight a technology battle to "outsmart" the governments like Google is doing in China? or should there be a legislative campaign to simply enforce the rules of democracy on the internet?
